The playing squares are made from thick sections of natural Ebony and Maple and the cabinet is constructed from whitewood. Unusually the top surround of the cabinet is also of Ebony, adding that extra little bit of opulence. The chess pieces are turned from Boxwood and ebonised Boxwood, a process that quite convincingly replicates the look of Ebony without the price tag.
